Losing breeds dissension and discontent. The current staff has identified their quarterback, and that’s good, but the one endorsement Helfrich has to secure is Phil Knight’s.

Without it, he’s a dead Duck.

Duck Stuff: Saturday Edition

■ Bye weeks are typically a time to reflect on the state of the program halfway through the season. All three writers focus on the subject starting with Ted Miller, Andrew Greif and Josh Gaunt. They all agree, what happens in the next 6 games will likely determine the future of Mark Helfrich and the coaching staff.

Miller: ...The best measure of any program can't be taken halfway through the season. The best time to judge Helfrich and Oregon will be on Nov. 27, when the regular season ends and the totality of the season is available for an autopsy...

■ Kenny Jacoby shares former players reactions to the losing streak.

■ Dale Newton looks ahead to the Cal game.

...They can run on the Bears, run for chunks and big yards while sustaining drives. That takes pressure off their new quarterback and young defense. A much-needed win would be a big step in turning things around, while building confidence for their young but promising offensive line...

Rob Mullens talked with Joey McMurry on his Ducks Insider radio show yesterday.

"We're in a place where we've had some incredible results," Mullens said. "Again, I think the things that matter is all of us are frustrated. 2-4 is disappointing. Last week was, you know, more of the same, more frustration and disappointment but at the same time right now in the moment we're six games in and we've got to continue to support the coaches, support the student-athletes and see what we can make of it this season."

Dale Newton doesn't like the idea that Oregon might start true freshman QB Justin Herbert.

Wouldn’t it be something if Herbert threw four touchdowns and beat the Dawgs? Probably won’t happen. But damn, at least the Ducks are interesting again.
