Duck Stuff: Wednesday Edition

Rob Moseley has your Tuesday practice report and has game notes for the contest this weekend.

Reggie Daniels had an interception in each of the last two team periods, notable for a guy being challenged to make a few more plays in the secondary. … During the first rep of one team period, scout running back J.J. Jones got to the second level, where he was wrapped up by Juwaan Williams.

Mark Helfrich talked to the media after practice about the upcoming game with Utah.

■ Johnny Mundt's improvement at TE has translated into more playing time.

Chantel Jennings wonders if Vernon Adams will start against Utah.

Justin Wise has a sneak peek at the Utah game.

■ QB Travis Jonsen is out for the season it was announced yesterday.

■ Oregon will host BYU in 2022 it was announced yesterday.

■ Dale Newton says there are big questions looming as conference play begins.

Offensively, it’s pretty clear this team needs Vernon Adams to get and stay healthy. In his first start Jeff Lockie completed 74% of his passes, but only five of those went for 15 or more yards. He was ineffective throwing downfield. He lacks the ability to create out of the pocket and doesn’t present the dual-threat ability to keep the defense honest or save a play with his legs.

While I agree that Jeff is lacking some skills, I don't think Vernon has proven that he has those skills against the caliber of opponent he's faced so far. He isn't running for big plays...he's getting chased and sacked or forced into poor throws. He also hasn't shown that he has a great touch on those deep passes—as a matter of fact, it was a gimme pass that he missed, costing us the game at Michigan State. This team is destined for four losses, and that's okay. We're rebuilding.
