Duck Stuff: Saturday Edition

Rob Moseley tells us about the Emerald Awards that has both football and baseball nominees which include Marcus Mariota and Jack Karraker.

Mariota set a new standard for what it means to be a UO student-athlete. Won the Heisman Trophy and led the Ducks to the College Football Playoff National Championship game, all along displaying a measure of class and humility that resonated throughout the nation. With all of that going on, he still maintained a regular presence as a volunteer at the local Boys & Girls Club, and kept up a 3.25 GPA in general science.

■ Ted Miller has bold predictions now that spring practice is past us and it includes the two leading quarterback candidates.

■ Brad Edwards takes a way-too-early look at what teams make the playoffs in 2015 which includes Oregon in the Rose Bowl.

Nice piece (with video) on Pharaoh Brown's recovery friend.

■ Oregon baseball got one step closer to making the playoffs with a five run 10th inning to win versus Washington St. 8-3.

On Deck: Oregon and Washington State meet in game two of their three-game series Saturday at 7:05 p.m. in Pullman. Oregon will send freshman David Peterson (4-5, 5.08) to the mound while the Cougars are scheduled to counter with Joe Pistorese (6-4, 2.70).
