■ Stewart Mandel thinks Oregon football might struggle to win a national title.
The Ducks are much more talented today than they were five years ago, but they still don't recruit at the same level as Alabama, FSU, LSU, Ohio State, et al., and they probably never will.
■ The Ducks softball team won 6-1 yesterday and it leaves them one game away from their third Women's College World Series appearance in four years. Oregon will have two chances to beat the Wolfpack and win the series Saturday, with first pitch set for noon, to be followed by a decisive third game should North Carolina State win.
■ The baseball team rallied but it fell just short as they lost to UCLA yesterday at PK Park 4-3.
