Duck Stuff: Morning Mud

Morning Mud
Rob Moseley has your Friday practice report.

Highlights: Practice began with “clutch,” and as has been the case the last few weeks Mariota sat out to let the backups get work in the scenario. Jeff Lockie used a couple of nice completions to Byron Marshall, one while rolling out, to set up a “game-winning” 35-yard field goal by Aidan Schneider. Jalen Brown had a spectacular catch-and-run for the twos, but Danny Mattingly and Justin Hollins had sacks to keep that unit off the scoreboard. … Mariota was spinning it in 7-on-7, spreading the ball around to the likes of Thomas Tyner, Keanon Lowe and Dwayne Stanford. Erick Dargan tipped a pass that Chris Seisay intercepted on the defensive field.

■ Jason Quick says that in time of need Mark Helfrich can coach after all.

Byron Marshall is going to dip his toes into his NFL draft prospects.

■ Joe Walker makes it to the top three with his play against Utah earlier this year.

■ Jared Shanker and Mark Schlabach (ESPN) both predict an Oregon victory over FSU.

Oregon catcher Shaun Chase and starting pitcher Cole Irvin have been named Louisville Slugger preseason second-team All-America by Collegiate Baseball.
