Duck Stuff: Morning Mud

Morning Mud
Marcus Mariota can add to his trophy case as we was honored yesterday with the national player of the year by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, player of the year for the Maxwell Award, and the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award winner.

Now a quick stop in Baltimore today to collect his Johnny Unitas trophy and then a quick trip to Manhattan for the Heisman Trophy presentation tomorrow. You just can't say enough about this kid.(broadcast is at 5pm local time tomorrow on ESPN)

■ Sharon Katz looks inside the matchup of Mariota vs Winston.

If Mariota wins the Heisman Trophy, this will be the fourth time that two players who already won the Heisman meet.

In two of the previous three, the most recent winner took home the title.

■ Gary Laney hands out hands the Oregonian's college football awards and Marcus Mariota gets the top offensive player and quarterback.

■ Omar Garibay wonders if this is the season where it all comes together for the Ducks.

Dale Newton chronicles a three year journey that has been nothing short of a spectacular ride.

Everyone who’s had contact with him remarks on what an exceptional young man he is, completely unaffected or unchanged by fame. He remains Toa and Alana Mariota’s son, and Michael Mariota’s brother, the friend and teammate, the guy with complete loyalty to his brothers in green and yellow, and they have total trust and loyalty to him.

That’s his legacy. The Heisman, while a great honor and accomplishment, is the answer to a future trivia question. Marcus Mariota made you proud to be a fan.

After having a little stink on us (Lyles, Masoli, Blount), it's great to have somebody that you're really pleased to cheer for. Word up on that.
