Duck Stuff: Morning Mud

Morning Mud
Rob Moseley has your Saturday practice report.

Mark Helfrich split up the clutch periods today, running the “need-three” drives to open practice and the “need-seven drives” afterward. The defense, perhaps fueled by that pre-practice pep talk, was in command early. Ifo Ekpre-Olomu had a sack and a pass breakup to get the ones off the field, and Dior Mathis intercepted a pass with the twos. In the period to end practice, Arik Armstead sacked Mariota to make it a sweep for the defense on the day...

■ Will Denner says the bye-week could not have come at a better time for the injury riddled O-line.

■ Andrew Greif reports the Ducks hope the red zone improvement continues against Arizona.

Dale Newton previews the Arizona game.

■ Dale Newton says the offense needs to reestablish a physical edge.

[Gary] Campbell needs Marshall, Tyner and Freeman to assert themselves, be more decisive, shedding first contact, and breaking some big plays. Better balance will take some pressure off Mariota, and give the Ducks a much better chance of keeping him healthy all season.

I'm starting to get pretty pumped for Arizona...after what they did to us last year, I'd love to throttle them.
