Duck Stuff: Morning Mud

Morning Mud
■ Andrew Greif says another big body could be joining the football team soon.

Defensive tackle Ratu Mafileo told a recruiting website that he has been cleared academically by the NCAA, a step that could set in motion him eventually joining Oregon, his preferred school all along.

■ Oregon dropped the last game of the series against UW 5-4 yesterday in Seattle.

Oregon starter Jeff Gold was masterful for most of the game. He retired Washington in order in six of the eight innings he pitched, while taking a no-hitter into the sixth. After Gold retired the first two batters of the inning, Washington strung together four straight hits off Gold to tie the game 2-2. He settled down and got the final seven batters he faced out, while matching a career-long outing throwing eight innings.
