Duck Stuff: Morning Mud

Morning Mud
Joey Holland compares Mark Helfrich's first year as head coach to many notable names that have preceded him.

Though it is still too early to tell, Helfrich appears to be on the right track for great things, with a superb record, a strong recruiting class — and a decisive Alamo Bowl victory to finish his first year, which is is something even Brooks, Bellotti, and Kelly were unable to pull off.

■ Steve Summers reports the Ducks have picked up JC transfer TE Jake McCreath, 6-4, 250, from Modesto Junior College to be a preferred walk-on.

■ Zach Gilliland says it should be another year for Marcus Mariota and the Duck defense.

■ Travis Haney @ESPN$ believes Eric Armstead and Marcus Mariota have something to prove nationally.

■ Oregon took care of San Francisco right from the start yesterday as they scored 5 runs in the first inning on the way to a 12-5 win.

J.B. Bryant led Oregon going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Nick Catalano finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Aaron Payne was 2-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored.

Oregon is back in action on Friday when they start a three-game Pac-12 Conference series at Stanford.

GO DUCKS!
