Duck Stuff: Morning Mud

Morning Mud
■ Dale Newton wonders if the game against Michigan St. on Sept. 6th will define the season.

For the Ducks, the September 6th matchup at Autzen is a big, big game, particularly because it comes against the kind of opponent critics say they can't match up with, a big, physical team with an elite defense and a power running game. (ed: guess we'll have to wait and see)

■ Oregon squeaked by Hawaii 3-2 for their first win of the season.

Sophomore Nick Catalano scored from second on a wild pitch on a strikeout with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to give No. 7 Oregon a 3-2 win over Hawaii in both teams’ season opener on Friday night at Les Murakami Stadium.

■ The writers at the Daily Emerald talk about the baseball team this year and what to expect.

■ Tommy Thorpe has been named to the Golden Spikes Award watch list USA Baseball announced on Friday.

Thorpe served as the team’s Friday starter the last eight weeks of the season finishing the stretch with a 1.13 ERA.

GO DUCKS!
