Duck Stuff: Morning Mud

Morning Mud
■ Dale Newton believes Oregon commit Morgan Mahalak could be the real deal given time.

Only time and effort will make Morgan an Oregon starter, if ever. But it's evident from the numbers and the film that he has the potential to be capable and effective in the PAC-12 a couple of seasons from now.

■ Jon Wilner (along with numerous Pac-12 fans) wonders is there will be any relief from the  night game nightmares we experienced last year.

■ David Piper says George Horton has plenty of options when it comes to adjusting the rotation because of Cole Irvin's injury, most likely the Sunday starter.

The two likely candidates, who will make starts in the season-opening Hawaii series, are Jeff Gold and Jordan Spencer. Gold was a Sunday starter for Oregon two years ago, and started five weekday games last season. He has 19 career starts for the Ducks and sports a 3.16 ERA for his career.
