Duck Stuff: Morning Mud

Morning Mud
Kevin Gemmell has his weekly "what we learned in the Pac-12" posted for week eight.

Oregon scored 62 points and totaled more than 700 yards in its win over Washington State. The scary thing is, the Ducks can be better. And the Cougs, as they did last year, made things interesting in the first half. But unlike the South, there is a true front-runner in the North. The Ducks are 4-0 in the conference and also perfect overall. Without question, they are the team to beat.

Oregon is still ranked 2nd in the AP but comes in at 3rd in the first BCS poll due in large part to Florida State's big move after beating Clemson.

Nick Aliotti apologized for his emotional comments (after the WSU game) during the weekly coaches call yesterday.

■ Mark Helfrich told the media that it is really hard to win and do it consistently during the coaches call yesterday.

If you haven't heard, ESPN's College Gameday is coming to town for the UCLA game on Saturday.

■ Jason Quick says signs point to De'Anthony Thomas playing again on Saturday.

■ Keanon Lowe says the block he threw to spring Thomas Tyner for a 66 yard touchdown was the highlight of his day against the Cougs.

"I think that goes for anybody in the group," Lowe said. "We want to get big-time blocks — touchdown blocks — just as much as we want to catch them, if not more so.

"That was definitely the highlight of my day."
