Terrance Mitchell made an interception on the first 11-on-11 snap for the defense against the scout team. Surely he's itching to get back on the field after his early ejection Saturday. ... Tony Washington followed that play by breaking up a pass to a running back, an area where the Ducks were hurt by Nicholls at times last week. Washington's pass breakup technique: flatten the back as soon as the ball arrived.

■ The Heisman Pundit liked the play of Marcus Mariota last weekend.
Mariota was one of two players to pass for over 200 yards and rush for 100 this past weekend (the other being C.J. Brown of Maryland). He threw for 234 yards and one touchdown and rushed for 113 yards and two scores as Oregon throttled FCS Nicholls State. The opponent was weak, but that will be forgotten weeks from now and the numbers will be absorbed into his season totals. He’ll face a somewhat stiffer test this Saturday as the Ducks take on Virginia on the road. It’ll be a good opportunity to showcase his talents in front of mid-Atlantic region Heisman voters.
