Duck Stuff: Morning Mud

Morning Mud
Athlon Sports wonders if Mark Helfrich can continue Oregon's winning ways after the departure of Chip Kelly.

"Helfrich needs to continue Oregon's run of four straight BCS appearances to truly be deemed an instant success. It would help to get the Ducks back into the Pac-12 Championship after they failed to qualify in 2012, and there's more than enough returning talent to think Oregon should be able to reach its second BCS championship game in four years."

Dale Newton believes the SEC aren't the only ones who can play defense.

Joey Holland takes on a brief history of Oregon football helmets.

Dale Newton believes four upgrades are needed on defense to win the big one.

Ted Miller has Oregon in "great shape" at the tight end position.

"Colt Lyerla is a versatile weapon for the Ducks' offense, one we expect to get more use this fall. His backup, Pharaoh Brown, was one of the stars of spring practices."

■ Junior De'Anthony Thomas has been named a preseason candidate for the Doak Walker Award.

"For the third time this preseason, University of Oregon junior all-purpose stalwart De’Anthony Thomas has been named to a national award watch list. The PwC SMU Athletic Forum named Thomas a preseason candidate for the 2013 Doak Walker Award, presented annually to the nation’s top college running back, Thursday."
