Duck Stuff: Morning Mud

Morning Mud
■ De'Anthony Thomas has been named to Phil Steele's preseason All-America team.

Thomas, a junior from Los Angeles, has 36 total touchdowns in 27 career games for the Ducks, who are expected to be ranked in the top five entering the 2013 season.

Oregon junior cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu is mentioned on the second-team defense, and UO junior center Hroniss Grasu.

John Canzano looks at a new way for the football team to optimize "recovery" after a hard day on the practice field.

Who will be the Pac-12's rushing leader in 2013? The majority believes someone not even on the list will the winner. Wonder who that would be?

Dennis Dodd believes the new four team playoff system might just be a place holder for bigger and better things to come.

■ Garrett Cleavinger, Cole Irvin and Mitchell Tolman have been named to the Louisville Slugger’s Freshmen All-American Baseball Team.

■ Jimmie Sherfy has been named one of five finalists for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, an honor given to the top reliever in NCAA Division I baseball, the NCBWA announced. The junior right-hander is a finalist for the second straight year.

Oregon is at the top of the list when it comes to three-headed monsters in the Pac-12.

What the heck is a three-headed monster in the Pac-12? It's about returning production: Elite combinations of quarterback, running back and receiver in the conference.

1. QB Marcus Mariota, RB De'Anthony Thomas, WR Josh Huff

The skinny: If you give extra weight to quarterback, the Ducks prevail. Moreover, Thomas and Huff are explosive playmakers who seem poised to step into the limelight and put up big numbers this fall. And there's also tight end Colt Lyerla.
