Duck Stuff: Morning Mud

Morning Mud
■ Rob Moseley reports, former Oregon and 49ers defensive star Dave Wilcox will be honored in Vale today as part of the Pro Hall of Fame's "Hometown Hall of Famers" program.

Wilcox, who led the Ducks to the 1963 Sun Bowl championship after transferring from Boise Junior College a year before, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000. For the last two years, Allstate Insurance has sponsored the “Hometown Hall of Fame” program; defensive back Mel Renfro from Oregon was honored in Portland in April 2012.

Wilcox will have a plaque bearing his name mounted on the wall of the Vale High gymnasium. A street sign noting Wilcox’s Vale roots also will be constructed.

■ Chris Charbonnier takes a look into the logistics of running an effective college football recruiting campaign in a two part series, "ideal recruiting blueprint." Today it's part one.

■ Oregon completed the sweep yesterday as they took game three in 11 innings beating Washington St. 4-3.

Scott Heineman led Oregon going 3-for-6 at the plate, while Mitchell Tolman was 2-for-5 with a RBI and a run scored.  J.J. Altobelli reached base four times going 2-for-3 with a RBI and two walks.  Brett Thomas was also 2-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI.
