Duck Stuff: Morning Mud

KEZI's report from last nights Duck win over the beav trash 3-0 at PK Park.

■ has all the details as Tommy Thorpe threw a hell of a game last night shutting out corvallis city 3-0.

Thorpe matched a career-high with seven strikeouts while only allowing infield singles in the second and third innings.

The Ducks and Beavers beav trash meet Saturday at 2 p.m. at PK Park in game two of the three-game series with both teams scheduled to throw freshmen.

■ Another day, another honor for Jimmy Sherfy. Sherfy has been named a semi-finalist for the Dick Howser Trophy.

The junior right-hander leads the nation in saves with 19, tying his school record on Wednesday against Gonzaga, while boasting a 2-0 record and a 1.00 ERA. He also leads all active players in the country in strikeouts per nine innings (13.05) and is second in career saves (38).

■ Scott Reed weighs in on Mark Helfrich's decision to hire coaches Ron Aiken and Matt Lubick.

■ Mel Kiper likes Colt Lyerla as a top TE prospect for the NFL next year.

Don't mistake Lyerla's lack of catches for lack of talent. The one-time star high school running back and linebacker might be the best athlete in this group, and Oregon was eager to find ways to get him the ball. He even rushed the ball 13 times last season, to go along with his 25 catches.

Ha...not very often you find a use for the strikethrough, but beav trash have a way of bringing that out! Go Ducks!
