Freshman Mitchell Tolman had five hits and four RBI in a doubleheader to lead No. 6 Oregon to a sweep of Ohio State on Saturday. The Ducks won game one 3-1 in 11 innings before winning game two 4-0.
Tolman was 5-for-8 in the two games, going 2-for-4 with two RBI in the opener and 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI in the nightcap. The freshman ran his RBI total to 18 in Oregon’s last seven games.
Oregon (39-11) got great pitching in the two wins over Ohio State (33-17). Five pitchers combined to hold the Buckeyes to just one run in 20 innings. Cole Irvin threw nine shutout innings in the second game, while Tommy Thorpe went 6.2 in the opener allowing just one run on seven hits while tying a career high with seven strikeouts.
The Ducks will look for a sweep of the three-game series Sunday at 9:05 a.m. (PT)
