Duck Stuff: Morning Mud

Morning Mud
■ Ted Miller notes that some top prep QB's from the class of 2014 are getting Pac-12 offers, courtesy of Tom Luginbill, including one QB who received an offer from Oregon.
ESPN recruiting's

QB-DT Deshaun Watson (Gainesville, Ga./Gainesville): Committed to Clemson but offered by USC and Oregon.

Says Luginbill: "He possesses average strength at this stage, but with the upside to really bulk up. He is a very savvy and confident player with a nice feel for the game and a presence for what is going on around him. He's poised and calm."

Rob Moseley and Scott Reed have more thoughts on the NCAA story that broke earlier this week.

Oregon pitcher Jeff Gold will pick up the mic before the game at PK Park Friday night to help out his sister.

The Oregon junior right-hander has been practicing a short speech he's written with his older sister, Kristin — the same supportive sister who compiled the recruiting video that convinced Oregon coaches to invite Gold to walk on to the team several years ago.

So before the No. 10 Ducks (28-8, 12-3 Pac-12) open a key conference series against No. 13 UCLA on Friday, Gold will step onto the diamond and throw some support back her way by delivering the speech to the PK Park crowd. His goal is to raise awareness about lupus, a puzzling autoimmune disease that Kristin, 27, has been battling for 10 years.
