Duck Stuff: Morning Mud
■ Mark Helfrich answers questions after practice yesterday and most of them have to do with the NCAA statement. Video courtesy of KEZI.
■ Rob Moseley and Erik Skopil have scrimmage reports from yesterday's practice.
Rob: "Our 'competition' has been good," [Mark] Helfrich said. "We want our guys to compete if it's tiddly winks. We want our guys to compete 100 percent of the time, and that part's been good."
Erik: Much has been made of the versatile junior tight end Colt Lyerla, who lined up tight, wide and also in the backfield last season. Lyerla has been moving around a lot this spring, according to Helfrich, who says he intends to use Lyerla in the same we he uses Thomas, Addison and Huff.
"I think he's a dynamic guy obviously with a ton of tools. We're going to try use him in every aspect. Everything he's been able to practice he's done really well. Whether that's blocking, running routes, running after the catch, carrying the ball."
■ Tyrell Crosby (OL) has become the second verbal commit for Oregon in the class of 2014.
Crosby, who goes about 6-foot-4 and 300 pounds, is a four-star prospect according to Scout.com, got three star from 247sports and is as of yet unranked by Rivals and ESPN.
■ Oregon and Scott Heineman just keep doing what they do as Heineman homered for the third straight game and Oregon beat Portland 4-1. Yeah, the pitching was pretty good too.
Oregon (28-8) hosts No. 13 UCLA in a crucial Pac-12 three-game series this weekend starting Friday at 7 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks.
