Duck Stuff: Morning Mud

Dana Altman talks to the media after the Ducks lost to Louisville 77-69. It was quite the run for Oregon and I am excited to watch the team next year build on this success. Video courtesy of KEZI.

• Oregon beat the dawgs 1-0 in a pitchers duel last night at PK Park to take game two of the series.

Tommy Thorpe and Jimmie Sherfy combined on a three-hit shutout to lead No. 12 Oregon to a 1-0 win over Washington in Pac-12 Conference baseball action Friday night at PK Park.

The Ducks and huskies wrap up their three-game series today at 7 p.m. at PK Park. The Pac-12 Networks will televise the game.

• Rob Moseley previews the defensive backs as spring practice sets to start on Tuesday.

The Ducks will feel good entering the summer if: Avery Patterson is well on his way to recovery, and Troy Hill and Dior Mathis are performing well enough to spell the starting corners if necessary.

• Aaron Fentress takes a look at the linebackers heading into spring practice.

The Ducks have been grooming young linebackers for a while.

"That's another place where we're excited to see how things shake out," Helfrich said. Tyson Coleman and Derrick Malone played in the rotation last season and each started one game. Coleman had 34 tackles, Malone 41. Redshirt freshman Brett Bafaro was a four-star recruit in 2012. Others in play will be sophomores Rahim Cassell and Carlyle Garrick and junior Rodney Hardrick.

As insurance, Oregon signed junior college transfer Joe Walker to possibly play inside linebacker. Helfrich said Walker has adjusted well since arriving on campus in the winter.

Just like last year, the baseball team finds a way to win. If they need clutch pitching, they've got it. If they need clutch hitting, it's there too. They field well, throw well, are fast—loving it!
