Duck Stuff: Morning Mud
• Dana Altman and members of the team talk to the media after beating Utah 65-45 to advance to the finals. Oregon takes on UCLA today for the Pac-12 title. Video courtesy of KEZI.
The third-seeded Ducks built a 14-point lead in the first half and kept the cushion near double figures the rest of the way to earn a spot in Saturday's title game against No. 21 UCLA.
• The Oregon baseball team opened Pac-12 play with a 5-2 win over USC yesterday in LA.
Brett Thomas, Scott Heineman and J.J. Altobelli combined for six hits and three RBI to lead Oregon to a 5-2 win over USC in the Pac-12 opener for both teams at Dedeaux Field on Friday night.
Thomas and Altobelli both went 2-for-4 with a RBI, while Heineman was 2-for-5 with a run batted in. Desmond Santos and Shaun Chase both added a RBI in the win.
• Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott says the DirectTV talks haven't progressed leaving many with no access to Oregon sports.
• Chip Kelly, known for his high flying offense, is cleaning house on the defensive side of the ball in Philadelphia.
Kelly is an offensive-minded coach, but he was obviously offended by how the Eagles played defense last season. He should have been. The Eagles were soft and gave up big plays. Too many quarterbacks looked downright comfortable playing against them.
So instead of feasting on cheese steaks after arriving in Philly, Kelly is gobbling up defensive players. When rush linebacker Connor Barwin agreed to a contract Thursday, he became the sixth defensive free agent the Eagles had signed this week. Barwin joined nose tackle Isaac Sopoaga, cornerbacks Bradley Fletcher and Cary Williams, and safeties Patrick Chung and Kenny Phillips.
