In 2011, the Ducks endured an injury to Anthony Gildon and the craziness that was Cliff Harris, which forced freshmen Mitchell, Hill and Ekpre-Olomu into more prominent roles than expected. In 2012, the injury to Boyett opened up a spot for Patterson, who was then himself hurt, thrusting Dargan into the starting job. Those were trying times, but the result is that Oregon enters 2013 with an extremely deep, experienced defensive backfield. If history shows the Ducks should expect to call on their depth due to injuries in the fall, it also has prepared them for it phenomenally well.
