Duck Stuff: Morning Mud

Jerry Allen talks with the Oregon Daily Emerald about another defining moment in Oregon football, the 2010 Rose Bowl against Ohio St.

Chip Kelly talks with reporters after practice yesterday. Video courtesy of Rob Moseley and the RG.

• Mike Huguenin @Yahoo Sports lists his top ten special team squads where you will find Oregon at number three.

Kicker was a weak spot last season. Alejandro Maldonado was 7 of 12, with his longest conversion from 40 yards. Rob Beard, who kicked for the Ducks in 2010 but had back and quad injuries last season, seems likely to beat out Maldonado.

There are no concerns about senior P Jackson Rice, one of three finalists for the Ray Guy Award. Rice averaged 45.9 yards per attempt and was the main reason the Ducks led the nation in net punting (41.5 yards). RB/WR De'Anthony Thomas was an electrifying kick returner last season, averaging 27.3 yards on his 36 attempts and taking two back for TDs. Oregon needs a new punt returner. The kickoff coverage was good, the punt coverage adequate last season.

Rob Moseley wonder if Bralon Addison could be the next Huff or DAT.

The Nike Blog shows another sneak peak of some new jerseys.

Adam Jude reports the QB competition comes down to the final week before a decision is made on who wills tart against Arkansas St.

Even if either Marcus Mariota or Bryan Bennett has separated himself after the first two weeks, teammates, coaches and other insiders have betrayed nothing out of the barbed-wire protected practices.

"They're both playing at a really high level right now," Chip Kelly said Saturday. "I want them to make it a really difficult decision for us."

We should find out who's had the most fun, and the most success, soon enough.
