Duck Stuff: Morning Mud

Morning Mud
• Not much going on with Duck football between now and the Rose Bowl but here are a couple of articles that might pique your interest.

De'Anthony Thomas got some positive reviews form Ted Miller.

Newcomer of the Year: Oregon WR De'Anthony Thomas was a do-everything performer in 2011. He rushed 53 times for 440 yards with five touchdowns. He led the Ducks with 42 receptions for 571 yards and nine TDs. He ranked 13th in the nation in kick returns, returning two for TDs. That's 16 total TDs. He ranked 17th in the nation in all-purpose yards.

Dale Newton likes DAT well enough to list him as Freshman of the Year on his awards list.

Ken Goe wonders if the NFL will ever come knocking on Chip's door.

Critics contend it wouldn't work in the NFL, but former NFL coach Tony Dungy isn't buying.

Dungy has had a close look at Kelly in the two seasons his son, Eric, has been in the program. Dungy told the Dan Patrick Show this week that he thinks Kelly and his system would translate well at the next level.

"I could see Chip Kelly getting Robert Griffin or Russell Wilson, doing some of those things Tebow is doing and really causing headaches," Dungy said.

Ted Miller ranks the top Pac-12 bowl games where you will find the Rose Bowl in the number two spot.

2. Rose Bowl Game (Jan. 2): Oregon (11-2) vs. Wisconsin (11-2). Two high-powered offenses. One that spreads you out and overcomes you with tempo and speed. One that lines up and plays smashmouth football, at least until flashy QB Russell Wilson arrived in Madison. Oregon has lost two BCS bowl games in a row, so the Ducks need to win to make a firm claim to a spot in the nation's elite. Wisconsin sort of feels the same way -- the Badgers lost here last year to TCU, if you recall.
