Duck Stuff: Morning Mud

Morning Mud
Chris Courtney and Rob Moseley have your Monday practice reports.

Chris: Chip Kelly mentioned that he was pleased with the defense's tempo and their knack for being around the ball on Monday. Sophomore Ricky Heimuli was his disruptive self once again from his defensive tackle position, while linebackers Boseko Lokombo and Michael Clay each had picks for the defense (Clay unofficially notched two). Redshirt freshman cornerback Terrance Mitchell was in the pilfering mood as well, intercepting quarterback Darron Thomas.

Rob: Lache Seastrunk drifted out into the flat uncovered late in the day and a took a screen pass for a long gain. Darron Thomas rolled out and showed nice feet throwing on the run to Nick Cole early in the day, but later tried to dump off a screen when the defense brought the house and was picked off by Michael Clay. Cole had a good day overall, standing out the most he ever has to me.

DE Terrell Turner will miss the rest of spring practice with a leg injury.

John Hunt reports that DE Ricky Heimuli draws comparisions to Haloti Ngata, high praise indeed.

Coaches never like to compare players, but Oregon defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti couldn't resist.

"You hate to put too much pressure on him,'' Aliotti said Monday of sophomore defensive tackle Ricky Heimuli, after the Ducks completed their fourth spring practice. "But he could be the closest thing to Haloti we've had in a long time.''
