Duck Stuff: Morning Mud

Morning Mud
Rob Moseley has a good piece on Darron Thomas' leadership role during the off-season as he leads the team through 7am drills and then hitting the weight room.

“As a worker, Darron has always done a nice job,” [Mark] Helfrich said. “Ever since the day he was kind of anointed as the starting quarterback, he’s had a different way about him vocally, and we need that to continue."

Ted Miller looked at the 2010 big explosion play leaders yesterday but how about the opposite, stopping the explosion play? Oregon came in 49th in the country and fifth in the Pac-10.

Casey Matthews came in at #19 on Ted Miller's top 25 in the Pac-10 last year.

What he did do over the course of 33 consecutive starts is produce -- consistently and at a high level. The first-team All-Pac-10 selection -- he was second-team in 2009 -- was the leader of the Ducks' defense, which ranked among the best in the nation. The Ducks are going to miss him.

Dale Newton says "what a difference a year makes." This time last year it was all about legal issues, kids leaving the team and class room troubles.

So the challenge for this group is clear:  finish winter workouts strong, and hit the field like champions on March 28th.  It will interesting to see the results of the testing at the beginning of camp.
