Chip Kelly has expressed confidence the Ducks can win regardless of which player is behind center come fall.
He didn’t bite following Saturday’s spring game when asked whether he’d be more inclined to go with a steady veteran — i.e., Costa — over a youngster with worlds of potential.
“I’m more inclined to go with the guy who’s going to help us win,” Kelly said.
• Andy Mac reports that seven players from the football team will compete in the Twilight Meet Saturday afternoon (5:00pm) at Hayward Field in a new event.
A football-only 60-meter dash will feature Remene Alston Jr., D.J. Davis, Tyrell Irvin, Dior Mathis, Eddie Pleasant, Jide Shinaba and Brandon Williams. They will toe the starting line in front of the west grandstand with the prize of bragging rights for the rest of the football offseason awaiting the winner.
Also on hand will be LaMichael James, Kenjon Barner and Talmadge Jackson III who will run the men's 100 meters as well as 4x100 relay.
