Duck Stuff: Morning Mud

It was the White team over the Green team 26-21 yesterday as the annual Spring Game was a definite success. Partly sunny skies, over 25k fans, an ESPN crew broadcasting nationally and Noah enjoying his first taste of the Autzen atmosphere. Great fun.

During the first half, neither QB stole the show but each had their moments. Costa seemed steady with fewer mistakes and moved the White squad down the field during the first quarter in an impressive drive. Thomas came alive in the second quarter after he threw a flea-flicker to D.J. Davis for a TD.

Kenjon Barner had a fantastic day on the ground scoring twice. He lead all players with 116 all-purpose yards, 96 on the ground and 20 in the air. LMJ saw limited action with just nine carries.

Jeff Maehl, D.J. Davis and Justin Hoffman all had nice catches during the game.

The defense was fast and aggressive with everyone going for the ball and not giving up on plays. Terrance Mitchell (true freshman) intercepted Darron Thomas in the first quarter that gave the White squad an early lead. Bo Lokombo was all over the place for the White squad and had a game high six tackles. Spencer Paysinger led the Green squad with four tackles.

The kicking game was the low point of the day. Jackson Rice punted the ball like he was playing JV ball in high school and Rob Beard missed an easy field goal and an extra point.

The (very short) second half featured the third and fourth string players. QB Daryle Hawkins had some nice plays, keep your eye on him in a couple of years, I think he'll be very good.

Here are all the normal links for the pundits stories. John Hunt, Steve Summers, Ken Woody (Wordy) and GoDucks.com.

ESPN3 (formerly ESPN360) has the complete game available. Look for the "schedule" link at the top of the player and then click on the "replay" tab.You can also watch in at GoDucks.TV.

I have the game on my DVR and will try to put together some highlights for your enjoyment. We have company so I might not have it posted until next weekend.

GO DUCKS!

Good times. I was impressed with a lot of different aspects of the game, and it is fueling me for August!
