It takes dedicated folks like Eric and his crew, who mainly work out of the limelight, to bring Oregon sports to all the fans.

Oregon Gets Verbal From Jackson Rice

It was announced today that one of the top prep punters in the nation, Jackson Rice, from Campolindo High School in Moraga, CA, has given a verbal agreement to play at Oregon in 2009. Watch his "promotional" video to get an idea of the leg this kid has. At 6'2" / 195 lbs. he has the size to get the job done.

Woopra Review - Real Time Website Data

I have been using Google Analytics for quite some now and have been really pleased with all the stats the service offers. The only thing missing has been real time stats. Woopra gives you that in a desktop client that looks fantastic and offers users a ton of information.

Here are some of the stats you can view in real time: IP addresses, geographic locations, user browsing data, visitor history, visitor paths, arrival and departure points, country, operating system, browser, language, screen resolution, pages viewed and time spent on pages. All of theses stats are searchable. You can even "live chat" with users.

Woopra is still in beta but it doesn't take more than a couple of days to get your website approved. To get started, register at Woopra, submit the url of your website and in a couple of days you should be approved. Once approved, you can insert a piece of code into your template (or there is a plugin for Wordpress sites), download the application (Mac or PC) and you are all set.

The free service is limited to websites with less than 10,000 page views per day and you must have the latest version of Java enabled.

If you have your own blog and this interests you, give it a try, I think you will be pleased.

Oregon's Kevin Garrett Suspended

Coach Mike Bellotti announced yesterday that linebacker, Kevin Garrett, is suspended indefinitely for violating team rules. No details were forthcoming about what rules were broken.

Garrett, a junior from Harbor City, Calif., was at the top of the depth chart at weakside linebacker heading into preseason practice. He had 21 tackles, 5 1/2 for losses, in 12 games last season.

Hopefully things can be worked out and Kevin can return to the team. If released, more details will be posted.

Autzen Getting New Video Scoreboard

Thanks to a new marketing agreement with IMG College and a $4 million dollar signing bonus, the U of O is upgrading the 10 year old MegaVision video screen with a state of the art LED system.

The old video screen was 24 feet by 42 feet. The new screen will be 33 feet by 89 feet and significantly clearer and brighter. For all of the details the Register Guard has the complete story.

As a side note, this picture was taken in 2005 and if you look closely you'll notice we were playing the Huskies. Expect the same kind of outcome on August 30th.

Terminator Salvation (Teaser Trailer)

As many of you know Dave, Kasey and I went to see the Dark Knight yesterday (read Dave's review here). This was one of the previews. While it is hard to get a feel for how good it will be, I hope it keeps the franchise going.

Christian Bale is portraying John Connor, which is a good thing in my opinion as he has revived the Batman series. Scheduled for release during the summer of 2009.

Enjoy!

Haloscan Comments

Haloscan, my commenting system, seems to be having trouble this morning (again), arghhh. Hopefully it won't last too long. None of your comments have been lost, I get an email notification when a new comment has been posted and so far there have been 3 guesses to the "what is it" post below. Jean, Dawg and Chris have supplied the following guesses. Stapler, tonearm/dvd/or cd device and Chris with iPod/MP3 player.

None of these are correct but if I had to say which is closer I would go with Dawg's guesses as this particular item does hook into the tv.

Thanks for checking in!

Oregon Football Loses One of Their Own

U of O redshirt freshman Todd Doxey, only 19 years of age, lost his life yesterday in a tragic accident on the McKenzie River.

We would like to offer our condolences to his family, friends and team mates. This is a bitter reminder to always respect the power of Oregon waterways. Life is too precious and fragile not to be extra cautious when dealing with our rivers.

Three Duck Defensive Backs Nominated

Oregon leads the nation with three nominees for the prestigious Jim Thorpe Award (there are 40 on the pre-season watch list). This award is given annually to the top defensive back in the country.

Oregon senior rover Patrick Chung, junior cornerbacks Jairus Byrd and Walter Thurmond, joined four other candidates from the Pac-10 and no other school in the nation had more than two candidates.

To receive this honor a player must demonstrate on-the-field performance, athletic ability and character. The field of candidates will be narrowed to approximately 10 semifinalists in early November. (Photo courtesy of GoDucks.com.)

Olympic Trials Men's 800 Meter Finals

video

If you didn't get a chance to watch the men's 800 meter finals on Monday night you missed a very exciting race. The top 3 finishers join the Olympic team to represent the US in the 800 meters.

All three have an Oregon connection. First and third place finishers, Nick Symmonds and Christian Smith are affiliated with the Oregon Track Club Elite program and U of O sophomore Andrew Wheating came in second.

Be sure and catch the lunging dive Smith takes to sneak into third at the finish line. He will be on the inside lane.
