USC 95 - Oregon 86 OT

Malik Hairston scored 21 to pace Oregon, which sent the game into overtime when Bryce Taylor made a layup as time expired.

USC (13-6, 4-3 Pac-10) was nearly perfect in the overtime session, going 5-for-5 from the field -- all 3-pointers -- and 6-for-8 from the free-throw line as they quickly broke away from the 74-all tie and the Ducks could not keep pace.

Taylor finished with 16 points, while Tajuan Porter scored 17 points, Joevan Catron had 15 and Maarty Leunen 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Neither team shot the ball well in the first half, particularly from the 3-point line. Southern Cal was 2-for-12 from long range, while the Ducks converted just three of their 14 attempts.

Overall, the Ducks shot 42% from the field while USC made 56% of their attempts.

It was the fourth straight win for USC, while the Ducks (12-8, 3-5) have now lost four straight since upsetting then-No. 23 Stanford two weeks ago.

There will only be one game next week. We will host the Beavers on Saturday at 3:00 pm local time. The game will be televised on the OSN.

UCLA 80 - Oregon 75

Maarty Leunen's (pictured) 16 points and 10 rebounds were not enough to stop Kevin Love, Darren Collison, and the rest of the Bruin team from eking out a win at Mac Court last night.

Malik Hairston led the Ducks with 18 points, but he went to the locker room for about seven minutes in the second half with leg cramps before returning to the court.

Love was booed and jeered unmercifully by the student section (and Dave), known as the Pit Crew. One of the nicer signs simply said: "Kevin Love Sellout." Love kept his wits, and finished with 26 points and 18 rebounds to lead the Bruins.

Love jilted his home state for UCLA, turning his back on the school his father, Stan Love, played for. The elder Love starred for the Ducks as an all-conference player in 1970 and '72.

The Ducks will host USC at 6:00 pm on Saturday.

Oregon 60 - WSU 69

Frantz Dorsainvil's expression sums up a disappointing loss for the Ducks last night at Pullman.

No WSU team had beaten Oregon since 2001. For most of the game, it looked like Oregon (12-6, 3-3) was going to win again. The Ducks bolted to a 17-6 lead, and led 34-30 at halftime. But they shot just 36 percent in the second half, while WSU was making 52 percent. That, combined with late turnovers was the difference in the game.

The loss spoiled a 20-point, 13-rebound effort for Oregon's Maarty Leunen. Hairston finished with 14 points and Tajuan Porter 11.

Washington State (16-1, 4-1 Pac-10), the nation's top defense at 52 points per game, held Oregon 21 points below its season average and to 44 percent shooting.

"Our team has nothing to hang our heads over," Oregon coach Ernie Kent said. "We may have had a few more turnovers, but other than that we executed perfectly."

"We need to play every team like we played WSU," Kent said.

It won't be any easier this week as Oregon heads home to take on UCLA this Thursday at 7:30 pm followed by USC on Saturday at 6:00 pm. Both games will be televised locally on Fox Sports Net.

Oregon 70 - Washington 78

Maarty Leunen (pictured) scored 22 points to go with his six rebounds for the Ducks (12-5, 3-2), who next play at No. 8 Washington State on Sunday.

Hairston added 20 points for Oregon, which never lead after 19-17 early.

Oregon, the team that shoots the most 3-pointers in the conference, made five of its first seven such shots -- then died by them. The Ducks made just five of their next 18 3-pointers as Washington surged ahead by 10.

The Ducks shot 41% from the field, combine that with the Pac-10's worst defense and it becomes obvious that if we don't tighten up on "D" it will be a long season. Let's hope we can turn it around a little before we arrive at Pullman on Sunday.

Stanford 66 - Oregon 71

Tajuan Porter (pictured) had a steal and scored four of his 15 points during the Ducks' 8-0 run in the final 2 minutes, leading Oregon over No. 23 Stanford 71-66 Sunday.

Maarty Leunen scored 16 points and was given the tough task of guarding Brook Lopez, Stanford's 7-foot, 270-pound center. Malik Hairston also scored 15, while Bryce Taylor added 11 points.

The win kept Oregon's home game winning streak alive this season which now stands at 8.

The Pac-10 is probably the toughest conference in the country with the likes of WSU and UCLA who are both in the top 25.

This was a big win and it was good to see Porter come out of his mini-slump. We'll need to fire on all cylinders as the Ducks take on the Washington schools later this week.

We face the Huskies on Thursday at 6:00 pm local time and then on Sunday travel to Pullman to take on the Cougars at 5:00 pm.

Cal 70 - Oregon 79

Malik Hairston and Bryce Taylor (pictured) scored 20 points apiece and Oregon held off California 79-70 on Thursday.

Maarty Leunen added 18 points and 11 rebounds for his Pacific-10 Conference leading 10th double-double of the season. The Ducks (11-4, 2-1 Pac-10) have won back-to-back games for the first time since early December.

The Ducks shot 47 percent for the game. They made 15-of-20 shots from inside the 3-point line, but just 9-of-31 from outside it.

Stanford will be at Mac Court, Sunday @ 1:30PM local time. The game will air on CBS.

Jonathan Stewart Update...

J Stew has confirmed my fears. It was announced today by Oregon that he will forgo his senior year to enter the NFL draft. A press conference at the University will be held later today.

Stewart ran for a school-record 1,722 yards, averaging 132.5 yards a game. He brought us many memorable moments and I can't say as I blame him.

He was highly recruited out of Timberline High School in Lacey, Wash., where he ran for 7,755 yards and 95 touchdowns.

The final AP standings for 2007 have Oregon at #23. The USA Today poll had us at #24.

Oregon 84 - Arizona 74

Malik Hairston (pictured) tied his career high with 29 points and the Ducks shot 56 percent from the field Saturday to beat Arizona at McKale Center.

Oregon (10-4, 1-1 Pac-10) led by 19 in the first half, and the No. 21 Wildcats (10-4, 1-1 Pac-10) never got closer than five in the second.

Hairston was 11-for-17, including 3-of-5 from three-point range. Overall, Oregon was 10-of-21 on three-pointers, compared to Arizona's 5-of-21.

Bryce Taylor scored 15 and freshman Kamyron Brown 13 for Oregon. Maarty Leunen added 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The Ducks shot 60 percent in the first half, including 7-of-12 on three--pointers. Hairston had 17 first-half points on 7-for-10 shooting.

This was a good win for the Ducks who hope to get back on track after losing the Pac-10 season opener against ASU on Thursday night.

Oregon will be at home next week to take on the Bay Area schools starting with Cal on Thursday afternoon at 5:30 PM local time. The game will be broadcast on the OSN.
