Beavers Make It 2 for 2

Oregon State ended one of the most dominant runs in the 61-year history of the College World Series with a 9-3 victory over North Carolina on Sunday night. The Beavers became the first team in a decade to capture consecutive national titles.

They did it by winning all five of their CWS games, including a sweep of the Tar Heels in the best-of-three finals. The Beavers (49-18) trailed for only one of 45 innings they played in Omaha, and they became the first team to win four CWS games by at least six runs.

Oregon State is the first back-to-back champion since LSU in 1996-97 and the fifth overall. "We've had high expectations on us from everybody," shortstop Darwin Barney said. "But every team is gunning for you. Every game you have that bull's eye on your back. Our chemistry has never been questioned, not through the ups and downs. There was always trust and belief on this club."

Way to go Beavs, this is a great win for an Oregon team.

Oregon State 11 - North Carolina 4

OMAHA, Neb. -- Oregon State's Jorge Reyes got himself and his team an important win last night in the first game of the College World Series best of 3 match up against the Tarheels.

Reyes, allowed eight hits and three runs in 6 1/3 innings to win for the second time in the CWS and third time in the NCAA Tournament. The Beavers can wrap up the Series, for the second time in as many years, this afternoon with one more win.

The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2. Game time is 4:00 PM PDT. This is pretty exciting stuff for the Northwest, as we typically play the red headed step child to the East Coast media moguls.

Good Luck Beavers!

OSU Defends Their College World Series Title

Head coach Pat Casey (pictured) leads the Beaver baseball team in their defense of the College World Series crown starting today at 4:00 pm PDT. Watch the game on ESPN if you have the chance.

They take on the same team they faced in the finals last year, North Carolina. This is only the 2nd time that the same two teams have met on back to back years. I usually don't have very many nice things to say about our in state rivals, but you have to hand it to the Beavs and it's not often that a Pacific Northwest team has a chance at a National Championship.

Good luck OSU!

International Space Station & Space Shuttle Visible Tonight

The International Space Station & the Space Shuttle Atlantis will be visible tonight in Eugene (& other areas of the west coast.) They will track from the northwest to the southeast above Eugene tonight from 10:35 pm until about 10:42 pm.

Look to the west at about a 30 degree angle from the ground (considering that straight above you is 90 degrees). Although they just separated earlier today, they are still traveling very close to each other and should be visible with the naked eye.

Happy gazing and please leave a comment if you did watch it live.

Dixon Headed for Florida

Having signed a professional baseball contract last Wednesday, UO football quarterback Dennis Dixon was in Eugene to receive his degree in sociology last Saturday before leaving yesterday for a summer playing in the Gulf Coast League. Dixon was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the fifth round of the Major League Baseball draft 2 weeks ago but said he will definitely rejoin the football team for his senior season this fall.

"I’m going to be here for sure,” Dixon said of returning for football.

Dixon said UO head coach Mike Bellotti and offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, also his position coach, have been supportive of his participation in baseball this summer, warning him only not to do anything that would jeopardize his football eligibility.

He said his teammates have also been supportive, and that he will do football exercises and studying throughout the summer to help make up for missing voluntary football workouts with the Ducks.

Dixon declined to reveal the terms of his contract with the Braves, particularly the amount of his signing bonus.

G4 iMac History Lesson & Commercial

Announced in January 2002, the iMac (Flat Panel) was the first completely redesigned iMac since the original. Based around a 15-inch LCD screen, this iMac also brought both the G4 processor and the CD-RW/DVD-R "Super Drive" to the consumer space for the first time.

This ad was done by Pixar, whose CEO was none other than Steve Jobs. I'm sure you will remember the commercial as soon as you watch it. It's pretty fun to have one sitting on my desk.

Thanks Dave!
