Once In a Blue Moon

According to the modern definition, a blue moon is the second full moon in a calendar month. For a blue moon to occur, the first of the full moons must appear at or near the beginning of the month so that the second will fall within the same month (the average span between two moons is 29.5 days). May 2007 will have two full moons: the first on May 2, the second on May 31—that second full moon is called the blue moon.

Note that the May 31 date applies to most of the Western Hemisphere, including the United States. In the Eastern Hemisphere, the full moon in question will occur on June 1. For that half of the world, the blue moon will be on June 30, 2007.

16th-annual Weightlifting Classic to Feature Duck Football Players

The weight room in the Casanova Center will serve as the location for the 16th-annual Weightlifting Classic this Saturday, June 2, and will feature international and local competitors, including a few faces familiar to Duck fans.

Joining in the competition for their first competitive weightlifting event will be Oregon running backs Jonathan Stewart and Andiel Brown. Stewart holds a school record by a running back with a power clean of 407 lbs.

The competition is free to the public and will begin at 11:00 a.m. and last until 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. It will be judged on the basis of a snatch and clean and jerk lift by each competitor.

Look for more coverage of Stewart's and Brown's first weightlifting competition in the Daily Emerald.

Noah's 1st Birthday

Chuck & Suzi had Noah's 1st birthday party at Timber Linn Park today up in Albany. We had a great time with family & friends from all over. It was a little cloudy and cool but at least it didn't rain. Noah didn't seem to mind the not so perfect weather as he enjoyed playing with all the kids, opening presents and of course digging into his cake. I added some of the photos I took to the Flickr site. Enjoy!

Free Online File Conversion

Have you ever wanted to convert an online video (or one you have), music file, picture or document from one file format to another? Look no farther than Zamzar.

A free online service that requires no downloaded software. You can upload your own file (up to 100mb) or specify a URL where the file is located. Fantastic idea and the list of file types they support is very impressive. Try it out here: Zamzar

If you would like an invite to Joost just send me an email and I will get you one. To see a short promo video click here. At the present time they have a few TV shows that I watch and they are streamed at a good quality. My favorite is the National Geographic specials. This is currently for Windows users only. A Mac version is in the works but not available yet.

Paper Dolls Trailer

Dave's friend, Aaron Pitman, has a brother Adam, and he is trying to make it in Hollywood. He has created a movie, and is now trying to get it distributed. If you have a website, please feature the trailer, and ask others to do the same! It would be awesome if Adam’s movie was picked-up for distribution. Tell your friends about it...do whatever you need to do! Oh, and be careful...it's a bit scary :-)

3 Ducks Chosen in NFL Draft

Jordan Kent, Dante Rosario and Matt Toeaina were all chosen during the second day of the NFL Draft Sunday in New York City, with Rosario the first University of Oregon player to go off the board with the 18th pick in the fifth round by the Carolina Panthers.

Matt Toeaina with the 13th selection in the sixth round by the Cincinnati Bengals. Toeaina was Oregon’s top tackler among its defensive linemen in 2006, accumulating 36 tackles, to push his career totals to 86 stops.

Jordan Kent was chosen 36th in the same round by the Seahwaks. “It’s just a huge relief to be drafted but at the same time, you’re really thankful to be put in such a great position being close to home and going to a great franchise. (The Seahawks) have kind of been my No. 1 pick since hearing about all the teams being interested. I’m definitely excited but at the same time, I know I still have a lot more work to do. This isn’t the finish line by any means so I’m definitely ready to work even harder because I’ve got my foot in the door and now I just have to capitalize on the opportunity.”

GO DUCK ALUMS!
