Told You So...

Chicago White Sox's Jermaine Dye holds up the World Series trophy after the White Sox defeated the Houston Astros in Game 4 to win the World Series for the first time since 1917, Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005, in Houston. Dye was was also the series MVP.

That's 0-8 for the Nationals in the last 8 World Series games.

Time to put baseball to rest for this year as we have a few months until Spring practice. On a little sidenote, the Yanks have resigned Brian Cashman as GM for the next 3 years

Clemens completes successful ankle surgery

EUGENE - Surgery to repair the fractured left ankle of University of Oregon senior quarterback Kellen Clemens was considered a success following the 90-minute procedure performed at Sacred Heart Medical Center Monday morning, according the Ducks' Team Physician Dr. Bob Crist.

Crist said the surgery consisted of inserting a screw toward the top of the ankle to pull the fibula and tibia together as well as attaching a metal plate to aid the healing process of a spiral fracture in the fibula.

Doctors estimate that Clemens' rehabilitation could extend between three and six months however a full recovery is expected.

He is expected to remain in the hospital overnight, however the family has requested that visitors refrain from attempting to see him in the hospital.

Latest BCS Standings

The latest BCS (Bull Crap Standings) have the Uof O ranked at 11th. The top 10 are: Texas, USC, Virginia Tech, Georgia, Alabama, UCLA, Miami, LSU, Penn State & Florida State. The AP and USA Today both have Oregon at 14th.

Oregon 28 - Arizona 21

The Ducks defense stepped up bigtime as Kellen Clemens went down late in the third quarter after a hard sack. Coach Bellotti says there is a slight chance that Clemens could return for a Bowl game. Clemens will go in for surgery today on his broken ankle.

On the very next offensive set, backup Dennis Dixon went out with a head injury, no word yet on his condition. That left the reins up to 3rd string QB Brady Leaf who proved ineffective in the 4th quarter.

It was a torrid 1st quarter, where Oregon scored 3 TD's, Colvin on a 54 yd pass play, Phinisee's long punt return and a 4-yard run by Jonathan Stewart which was setup by a long pass to Demetrius Williams.

The 4th quarter belonged to the "D", highlighted by Brent Haberly picking up a dropped ball, courtesy of Mike Bell and then running 34 yards for the TD.

Hopefully, Dixon will recover in time for the Duck's next game against Cal in two weeks.

Torre Signs Up For 2006

In a press conference yesterday at Yankee Stadium Joe Torre said he will be back for 2006. His contract runs through 2007.

One of the teams first priorities is to secure a pitching coach after Mel Stottlemyre annouced his retirement after losing in the ALDS to LA.

The Yankees have asked and been granted permission from the Atlanta Braves to talk with their pitching coach Leo Mazzone.

The off-season moves will be interesting to follow as Joe Torre will seek his 5th World Series ring as the Yanks skipper.

National Rankings

One of the main reasons for the Ducks success this year belongs to Terrence Whitehead, pictured here in the first quarter against Washington last Saturday.

The first BCS poll is out with Oregon ranked 13th. The AP has the Ducks at 15th while the USA poll has them at 16th.

Oregon 45 - Washington 21

Devan Long throws down the Dawg's QB Isaiah Stanback as the Ducks roll to an easy victory over long-time rival Washington.

The game was not even as close as the score suggests as Kellen Clemens threw for 425 yards and 4 td's with no interceptions. Demetrius Williams snagged 2 of the touchdown passes, Terrence Whitehead with 1 and Jaison Williams with the other.

Jonathan Stewart ran for a 17 yard TD and Brian Paysinger scampered for a 5 yard TD. Scoring was capped off with a 30 yard field goal by Matt Evanson.

The Ducks travel to Arizona next Saturday for a 4pm game and have their bye week on the 29th.

A-Rod - "I Played Like a Dog"

He was hitless in Monday night's 5-3 loss that sent the Yankees home for the year, and finished the five-game series with no RBIs and a .133 batting average.

``I played great baseball all year, and I played like a dog the last five days. I can't put it into words. This is as low as it gets. I felt good, I saw the ball well,'' Rodriguez said. ``If I would have contributed some, maybe we would be moving on to Chicago.

``I've got to take a long look in the mirror because I didn't do my part. I mean, you win and lose as a team, but I didn't show up.''
He wasn't the only one.

Of 11 runners the Yankees left on base, Matsui stranded eight. He was 4-for-20 in the series and had only one RBI, on a home run.

Only players that clutched it up were Jeter and Giambi. George Steinbrenner once called Dave Winfield ``Mr. May'' after he went 1-for-22 in the 1981 World Series loss to the Dodgers. The Yankees owner may have some new names for some of his stars after their failures in consecutive postseasons.

So, now that the Yanks are done for the year,

Yanks 3 - Angels 2

Jorge Posada scores the winning run as the Yanks win a close one in the Bronx. He also threw out 2 baserunners. The final game will be played back in LA tonight at 5pm PDT.

Game 5 will feature Mike Mussina going up against Barton Colon, a rematch of the game 1 pitchers.

Oregon 31 - Arizona St. 17

Oregon played their best game of the season, on both sides of the ball, in there second Pac-10 win. Demetrius Williams had 3 catches for 108 yds. with a touchdown. Terrence Whitehead was the main man with 122 yds. rushing on 21 carries (2 td's, 1 rushing & 1 receving) and Kellen Clemens threw for 278 yds. with 2 touchdowns.

So much for the offense, the defense was just outstanding. The Ducks held ASU to 53 yds on the ground and had 2 key interceptions against Keller. Time and time again Oregon held ASU to three and out.

The Ducks are now 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the Pac-10.

Big Unit is Big Bust

Randy Johnson watches a 1st inning, 3 run homer by Garrett Anderson. He went on to give up 9 hits and 5 runs in 3 innings as the Yanks lost 11-7 to the Angels.

With their backs to the wall the Yanks will have to win the next 2 if they hope to meet up with Chicago in the ALCS. Chacon will face Washburn at 4pm EDT today.

Yanks Fall To Angels 5-3

Timely hitting by the Angels coupled with 2 costly errors by the Yanks led to a series tying win by LA.

This photo from the first inning is Giambi hitting a line-drive, broken bat shot that Angels pitcher John Lackey snagged for the out.

The Yankees also stranded 8 runners in scoring position. The series moves to New York on Friday night with Randy Johnson going up against Paul Byrd.

In other division series new, Chicago goes up 2-0 against Boston with a 5-4 victory and Houston man-handled Atlanta 10-5 to take a 1-0 lead in that series.

Yanks 4 - Angels 2

Mike Mussina pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings, threw 4 strikeouts and 0 walks as the Yankees take game 1 of the ALDS. Robinson Cano, the AL favorite for the Rookie of the Year, provided a clutch double in the first inning to knock in 3 runs which proved to be all the runs NY would need.

Game 2 is at 7pm PDT on ESPN with Chien-Ming Wang going up against John Lackey. Be there!

As a side note (for those care), Boston was trounced by Chicago 14-2 and St. Louis beat the Padres 8-5.

Best Rivalry Ever?

Probably half the country is sick and tired of hearing about either the Yankees or the Red Sox. But what are you looking more forward to in the upcoming American League playoffs?

I mean get real, Angels-Sox? Who cares, except for those few die hard fans in LA or Chicago. Nothing in sports comes close to these 2 teams going at it, year in and year out. It's not just the fans and the players either.

"We understand [Sox owner] John Henry must be embarrassed, frustrated and disappointed by his failure in this transaction," said George Steinbrenner after signing Alex Rodriguez in 2004. "Unlike the Yankees, he chose not to go the distance for his fans in Boston."

Ouch, that one kind of stung, and that's exactly what I am talking about. I'll have the TV tuned to the Yanks game tonight and I bet if you are honest with yourself, in the back of your mind you are secretly hoping for a Yanks-Sox ALCS too.

Oregon 44 - Stanford 20

Kellen Clemens threw for 393 yds. and 3 touchdowns in 3 quarters as the Ducks win their first Pac-10 game of the year after the loss to USC last weekend.

In a game that saw Demetrius Williams catch 6 passes for 163 yds., Jonathan Stewart score 3 touchdowns, the offense amass 596 total yards and the defense step up big-time, the score wasn't even as close as the final outcome.

Penalties and special teams continue to be a nagging problem for the Ducks. They will have to work harder next week against ASU in Tempe if they want to go 5-1 overall.

Behind 7 1/3 innings of Randy Johnson pitching and homers by Sheffield, Matsui & Rodriguez, the Yanks have wrapped up the Division title once again!

My Next Move...

Joe Torre ponders Saturdays game as the Yankees lost the series opener 5-3 on Friday night against Boston. All tied up again in the East with 2 games left.

Seems like the perfect time to start Randy Johnson. He will go up against Tim Wakefield at 1:15 EST on Fox. The good news, Cleveland lost a close one to the White Sox to fall 1 game behind the Yanks & Sox.

My nerves are about shot keeping up with the different scenarios.
